Former French President Sarkosy was jailed for five years over the 2007 Gaddafi campaign funds

The court in Paris on Thursday sentenced the former French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, to be five years in prison for a criminal conspiracy.

Sarkosy, who left the office in May 2012, was convicted of the accusation that the late leader of Libyan, Muammar Gaddafi, helped fund the 2007 Presidential Campaign with millions of Euros in return for diplomatic assistance.

However, the 70 -year -old player was released from three other charges, including passive corruption, illegal campaign financing, and hiding embezzlement of public funds.

The court also fined former president € 100,000, and he would still be detained even though there was an intention to appeal the decision.

With this decision, Sarkosy, who is now a member of the Republican Party, has become the first former French president since World War will be sentenced to prison.

Since then he rejected his belief as injustice.
