Former NEF spokesman, Baba-Ahmed, observed cracks in the coalition led by Atiku ahead of the 2027 election

A former special advisor about political issues to the President, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has caused concern for the distribution among opposition figures who are trying to build an integrated front ahead of the 2027 general election.

Baba-Ahmed, who appeared on the morning program on Arise television on Monday, revealed that the highly anticipated coalition aimed at defeating the Congress of all Progressive (APC) in the 2027 election was disturbed by internal disagreement and failure to accommodate new and dynamic leadership, especially among Nigerian youth.

He said: “I am not involved in a coalition discussion. I just observed, with a lot of concern, that the opportunity to create strong opposition is being wasted by people who insist that they must be the face of the movement.”

His comments followed the report that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Governor of the State Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai, a 2023 Labor Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and others were considering the registration of a new political platform, with a doubt named All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

However, the Atiku camp has clarified that there is no official adoption of the name.

Baba-ahmed criticized the nature of the coalition and described it as an elite circle of politicians who did not want to produce land or embrace broader and more inclusive leadership.

“This is a coalition of some people who think they can agree behind a closed door and only announce to the Nigerians: ‘We have chosen your leader,'” he said.

He also condemned the absence of a striking young man in the ongoing coalition.

“Where are the younger Nigerians? Where are the young men who should be the heart of this conversation? They are completely lost. These leaders consider politics about them; no,” former spokesman for the North Elder Forum (NEF) stated.

He stressed that there is no current political heavy class that must lead or dictate the direction of the coalition, showing that they take the back seats to enable Nigerians who are competent and younger stepping forward.
