Former Rivers Hos denied the abduction claims as his wife insisted on danger

Controversy Regarding Resignation Dr. George Nwake, the former Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, took another turn on Saturday when he denied his wife’s claim, Florence, that he had been kidnapped.

In a video statement released in early Saturday, Dr. Nwake rejected his wife’s concern, who stated that he was safe in Abuja, where he traveled to voluntarily report himself to a security agent about the political crisis in the state of Rivers.

“I was in the Abuja Transcorp. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet with security agents and report myself, as well as troubling events that occurred at Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Services on Monday because of this development,” he said.

He also accused his wife of being misled and forced to make his claim. “I have just seen a video of my wife’s trend. She was told that I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I wanted to clarify – I was not kidnapped. I was in Abuja, working. When I was the head of service, my wife was not involved in my official assignment.

Florence Nwake, in an emotional interview on Friday, has caused concern over the safety of her husband after failing to contact him after his arrival in Abuja.

“When he arrived in Abuja, he called to say he had landed. I thank God for his salvation,” he recalls. “But then, I began to receive a call that he had given an interview. I was confused – what interview? What interview for?”

He described his original break up to contact him, saying, “I sent him a message. I asked, ‘Are you under coercion? Are they kidnaping you? Talk to me now. Why don’t you respond?’ But he didn’t answer.

The controversy erupted after Dr. Nwake openly accused Governor Siminaayi Fubara of regulating the bombing of the House of the River State Assembly in 2023 to prevent the impeachment. He claimed to have witnessed a bag of money handed over to Edison Ehie, a former leader of the assembly and now Fubara Chief of Staff, to carry out attacks on the assembly complex along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
