Four people rescued from collapsed building in Abuja

At least four people were rescued from the rubble of a collapsed two-storey building in Kubwa, Abuja, on Saturday.

Acting Director-General of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Mrs. Florence Wenegieme, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

He said the building is located beside Cupid Hotel, Sultan Dasuki Road in Phase 2, Bwari Area Council FCT.

The FEMD chief said the collapsed building contained 45 self-catering rooms, adding that it was used as a hotel before being converted into residential use.

According to Wenegieme, the victims have been taken to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

He said: “FEMD was notified of the incident by a passerby and also received an emergency call on the toll-free number 112 at around 6:45 am and was immediately mobilized to the scene.

“Search and rescue efforts continue until the last person is successfully evacuated, if indeed there are still those trapped in the rubble.”

The DG said other agencies at the scene included the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the police.
