Four sinks into floods

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the order received reports of four sinking incidents that occurred in Hayin Kwarin-Misau; Bojude, Bajoga and Difa communities in Akko, Kwami, Funakaye and Yamaltu Deba regional regions of the country’s regional government.

He added that the victims were children and teenagers, who drowned in rivers, erosion sites, and unprotected waterways.

The spokesman said: “The Gombe State Police Command wants to remind and make community members aware of the need for increased and vigilance around the water body.

“This is considering the rainy season, because unintentional sinking cases continue to cause serious public security problems.”

He also advised the population of the country to comply with safety guidelines to prevent loss of lives.

“Avoid swimming in open or not arranged water bodies, rivers and erosion channels are not safe for swimming, especially during heavy rain when the flow of water may not be predicted.

“Monitor children at any time; parents, guardians and school administrators are strongly advised to continue to supervise their children and students and prevent them from going outside when it rains or roaming near the water body.

“Avoid flooding areas; do not try to walk, drive, or swim through the flood zone because the depth and strength of the water may be misleading,” said the spokesman.
