Four years brutalized orphan in Nasarawa

A group of defense of rights, The Men Against Rape Foundation (Marf), condemned the brutal assault of a four-year orphan, Ukasha, by his uncle and guardian, a Mai-Naira Abdullahi, in Lafia, the capital of the state of Nasarawa.

The Foundation was outraged by receiving disturbing images and videos of Ukasha lesions, which were inflicted on him by his uncle (Abdullahi) on Saturday 12 April 2025, in the phase II area of Galafima di Tudun Amber, Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to the Foundation, the little Ukasha was fiercely whipped by Abdullahi for dancing during a neighborhood denomination ceremony together with other children and women.

The uncle, presumably offended by the boy’s participation in what he considered a violation of his beliefs, subjected the child to a wild beat that left deep cuts on the back, the sides, the face and the stomach.

The witnesses described the scene as straziants, saying that the wounds remained fresh and visible even two days after the accident.

The child confirmed in a short interview that he had not received any relief from pain or medical care following the beating.

In an electronic declaration signed by its executive director, dr. Lemmy Ughegbe and director of strategic development, dr. Augustine Eigbe, the Foundation described the assault as “an act that borders on the murder attempt” and a serious violation of the child’s fundamental rights.

“This is not an isolated case,” observed the declaration.

“Only in February of this year, a student in a famous Islamic school in Lafia was whipped to death, but the question was buried without justice”.

Marf invited the Governor of the State of Nasarawa, Abdullahi Sule, to intervene immediately in the matter, urging the governor to guarantee the rescue and safety of Ukasha, start a large -scale survey on the abuse and pursue the guardian to serve as a deterrent for others.

“We cannot continue to normalize brutality under the mask of the discipline or religious affirmation,” said the group. “A society that cannot protect its children cannot protect its future”.

The Foundation further appeal to the National Human Rights Commission, the Ministry of Affairs of Women and other defense groups of the rights of minors to gather support for Ukasha and other victims of similar abuses.
