FRSC Officer, 17 others died at Ogun Auto Crash

A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and 17 others were killed in a car accident in GBAGA along Jalan Ikorodu, on Saturday.

FRSC spokesman in the state of Ogun, Ny. Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta.

He said seven vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred at 16:00, on the highway.

Vehicles are the Toyota Hiace bus (AGL 752 YC), DAF Trucks (T14007L), and Honda cars (HT680).

What was also involved was an unregistered DAF truck, Pickup (STF10204), and two motorbikes (AGG 448 Q, PKA 214 WS).

Okpe said the accident was caused by wrong driving by the bus driver.

He said: “Daf trucks who are not registered suffered brake failure and crashed into a FRSC official, killing him instantly.

“The truck also crashed into parked pickups, Honda cars, and both motorbikes, causing further damage.

“22 people were involved in the accident; 18 died and four others were injured.

“The injured were taken to the Dasochris Hospital, Gbaga. Dead people were stored at the Olabisi University onabanjo University, Sagamu, Ogun University.

The FRSC sector commander in the state, Akinwunmi Fasakin, expressed sadness over the carelessness that caused an accident on Saturday.

He urged motorists to comply with road signs and maintain speed limits to prevent the tragedy that can be avoided.
