The Governor of the State of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, said he accepted the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in the interest of the peace, stability and progress of the state.
In a state broadcast on Friday evening, shortly after resuming the functions following the revocation of the emergency rule, Fubara has described the last six months as one of the most demanding periods in the history of the state.
He explained that, despite the pressure, he chose not to challenge “the constitutionality of the declaration of a state of emergency, the suspension of the democratic institutions and all the other actions have undergone during this difficult period”.
The Governor praised President Tinubu for transmitting a peace process that involved him, the Minister of FCT and members of the house of the Shareholders’ Meeting of the State of the Rivers, observing that all the parties had now “agreed to bury the location and to embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear state of the rivers”.
“We believe that the political crisis is now behind and that peace and stability have returned once again to the state of spinners, although not without the difficult lessons learned from the emergency rule,” said Fubara.
He underlined that the responsibility is now based on the state government, the Chamber of the Assembly, the political leaders and the interested parties to “put aside our differences, work for the common good and advance the interests of our people above all else”.
Fubara has assured that his administration remains committed to ensuring that peace achieved hard.
