Fubara will not download PDP, says Aide

Siminalayi-Fubara-1

The special assistant in the electronic media of the governor of the state of suspended spinners, Siminalayi Fubara, Jerry Omatsogunwa, said that Fubara remains a member of the Democratic Party of people, PDP.

Omatsogunwa, reacting to the news of the alleged planned defection of Fubara at the Congress All Progressives, APC, expressed doubts about the fact that the governor was even aware of the defection that is said, which emerged on Sunday.

A report by Arise News said that the governor Fubara, next to his counterpart of the Delta state, the Sheriff Oborevwori and the governor of the state of Akwa Ibom Umbom Umbo Eno, were planning to defect for APC.

The report suggested that the move was part of a wider strategic political alignment in view of the general elections of 2027.

The governor Oborevwori deserted on Wednesday together with his deputy, his predecessor Ifeanyi Okowo, his commissioner and the main leaders of the PDP in his state at the APC.

A report of Daily Post quoted Omtsogunwa for declaring: “I doubt that the governor is even aware of the defection that is said at this moment that he wants to defect. I doubt that the governor is aware.

“At present, we are still members of the PDP and nothing has changed as far as we are concerned at the moment. This is the location of things right now.

“For now, while we are talking, the governor has not talked about defection. It is still a member in good faith of the PDP.

“And I can tell you for free that the governor, our governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is the vice -president of the forum of the governor of the PDP. And that’s how things are at this moment. Today is April 24, 2025, and this is 9:46; as it is at the moment, the governor is still a member in good faith of the PDP. I don’t know something defective.”

Commenting on the unconfirmed news of a meeting between the Governor Fubara and President Bola Tinubu during the weekend in London, Imatsogunwa did not confirmed or denied the meeting, but said that if such a meeting had taken place, it would have been a positive step to find a way to follow for the state.

Omatsogunwa has further reiterated the feelings shared by others, suggesting that if a state of emergency was necessary, it should be declared in the states that sincerely experience instability, not in the state of the rivers, which has described as “peaceful”.

“If you live in the state, you would know that even the only administrator who has arrived has confirmed that Rivers State is very peaceful and there is no crisis here,” he said.

Omatsogunwa added: “If the man who brought here in his inaugural transmission they said that there is no crisis here, it means first, it shouldn’t even be here.

“So, I don’t see anything to extend the state of emergency. And you have seen agitations in the streets of Port Harcourt, where people ask for the replacement of democratic apparatus in the state of spinners.”

He accused Ibas of attempting to encourage a crisis presumably appointing loyalists of the minister of the territory of the federal capital, Nyesom Wike, as the only administrators in the 23 areas of the local government of the State.

President Tinubu declared the state of emergency in the state of the rivers on March 18, citing a prolonged political crisis that said that threatens national activities critical in the region full of oil. Next to the declaration, the governor Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu and all the elected members of the Chamber of the Shareholders’ Meeting of Rivers State were suspended.
