Fulham manager Marco Silva has back Alex Iwobi following the criticism he receives from Nigeria fans after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Arsenal star was subjected online abuse from Super Eagles fans disgruntled by the result. In response, Iwobi took the step of deleting all his Instagram posts.
Addressing questions regarding Iwobi’s mental state ahead of Fulham’s Premier League encounter with Aston Villa, Silva expressed confidence in the player’s resilience. “Mentally, he’s very good,” Silva affirmed. “Alex is a happy boy when he’s on the pitch doing what he loves, he’s always doing it with a smile on his face.”
Silva also criticized the unjust criticism Iwobi faced on social media, emphasizing the collective nature of victories and losses in football.
“They lost the final and the people reacted they think that is the best. In my opinion it was completely unfair because of the way they criticized him on social media,” Silva remarked.
Having discussed the situation with Iwobi since his arrival at Fulham, Silva confirmed that Iwobi will be involved in the upcoming fixture against Aston Villa, along with teammate Calvin Bassey.
