Funke Akindele talks about her early struggles as an actress

Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has opened up on her initial struggles as an actress and how not getting roles in English language films frustrated her.

The talented performer opened up in an interview with Arise News stating that he was frustrated when he didn’t get any English films.

She said that her frustration made her open up to Ayo Adesanya while they were working on a project and he told her that he would talk to the producers so she could be in the Yoruba film.

β€œWhen I don’t get roles in English, I feel frustrated. So I was working on a project with Ayo Adesanya, and I told him I didn’t have a role and he said, ‘I’ll talk to the producers, and you’ll be in the Yoruba film.’ And he spoke to the producers and I was invited to come and act in Osogbo at that time.” Funke said.

The mother of two, who has grown up over the years as a filmmaker, producer and politician, revealed that the move saw her meet important figures such as Fathia Balogun and Iyabo Ojo.

β€œFrom there I met Fathia Balogun. I met Iyabo Ojo and I told them I needed a role and Iyabo said, ‘Okay, come on, come on.’ He took me to Odun Fakoko where you had Yinka Quadri and Taiwo Hassan. He said, ‘This is my friend. Give him a job,’” he relates.
