Gail defections in the National Assembly as 9 senators, 12 Reps dump the party

There were multiple defections in the National Assembly on Thursday when a total of 21 federal lawmakers dumped their various political parties for other parties.

In the Senate, nine lawmakers from various political parties defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while 12 lawmakers in the lower house also left their respective parties for different parties.

Their defection letters were addressed to the President of the Senate, Insha Allah Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass respectively and were read out at the plenary session on Thursday.

The senators are Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto State; Eyinnaya Abaribe, Abia; Binos Yaroe, Adamawa; Victor Umeh, Anambra; Tony Nwonye, ​​Anambra; Lawal Usman, Kaduna; Ogoshi Onawo, Nasarawa State; Augustine Akobundu, Abia and Ireti Kingibe, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Of the 12 members of the House of Representatives who defected, six left the People’s Democratic Party and joined the All Progressives Party (APC). Five members left the Labor Party and PDP to join ADC, while one member switched from the Young Progressive Party to ADC.

Those who defected from the PDP to the APC are James Barka (Adamawa), Kwamoti Bitrus Laori (Adamawa), Zakaria Nyampa (Adamawa), Kobis Thimnu (Adamawa), Midala Balami (Borno), and Mohammed Bargaja (Sokoto).

MPs who defected to ADC include Afam Victor Ogene (Anambra), Peter Aniekwe (Anambra), Lilian Orogbu (Anambra), Jessey Onakalusi (Lagos), and Murphy Osaro Omoruyi (Edo).
