Gamrlab, a new video game development and video game center, was launched in Lagos with the aim of training 5,000 participants in their first year, with the aim of accelerating the growth of the Nigeria game industry.

Released in association with the Embassy of France and the University of Lagos, Gamrlab is designed to provide Nigerian and African young people essential skills to succeed in the global sectors of electronic games and sports.

The initiative aspires to position Africa as a significant player in the multi -million dollar digital entertainment industry, which offers training in the development of games, the design and entrepreneurship of electronic sports.

In the launch event, the CEO of Gamrlab, Eniola Edun, highlighted the pressing need for education and awareness to feed the growth of the Nigeria video game industry.

He pointed out that the wrong concepts surrounding the Game Sector, often confused with the game, have hindered their progress, even among political leaders and industry leaders.

Edun explained that, beyond financing and infrastructure, the main challenge is the lack of understanding of the economic potential of the game industry.

While global markets have seen games to produce millionaires through competitive game and games development, the Nigerian market is still not exploited to a large extent.

Despite the support of private and international investors, Edun said that local institutions and government agencies have not offered similar support, even after numerous commitments.

Christophe Pecot, the regional audiovisual aggregate of the Embassy Embassy, shared his belief in Gamrlab’s Potential to shape the future of the sports and video game sports of Nigeria.

He stressed that the initiative is a crucial step to equip students and aspiring professionals with the skills necessary to excel in the industry, thus creating opportunities for young creatives and contributing to the long -term growth of the sector.

Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Development Services of the University of Lagos, praised Gamrlab To close the gap between technology, creativity and businesses.

Represented by Olayinka Adewunmi, interim director of the Office of Innovation and Technology Management, Atsenuwa said that he will encourage collaboration between various fields, such as engineering, humanities and social sciences, allowing students to make the transition to be consumers to video game creators.

He also expressed the opening of the university to integrate the games into his curriculum and explore collaborations with Gamrlab to develop even more digital skills.
