The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Ganduje, on Saturday vowed to reclaim Edo State for his party in the September 21 general elections in the state.
The Chairman stated this while inaugurating the APC national campaign council led by Cross Rivers State Governor, Bassey Otu, in Abuja.
He tasked his members to ensure his party reclaims the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election.
Ganduje, who was elated by the defection of the state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu to the APC, said his party had secured up to 50 percent of the people’s votes in the state government.
He urged the campaign council to ensure that all members at the local government and unit levels are present to campaign and vote for APC in the elections.
“The opening rally will be held soon so that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be in Benin City.
“We are very happy because the new governor and his deputy have produced a blueprint for the development of Edo Province, not yet complete with a memorandum of understanding.
“They came up with a blueprint and practical steps for Edo to fully develop and connect with the center.”
The former Kano State Governor said the state would not experience full political participation and the benefits of democracy if it was not connected to the center,
Ganduje commended the Oba of Benin for maintaining peace and tranquility in the state and assured that the APC government would value and respect the traditional council under the king.
Meanwhile, APC candidate in Edo, Monday Okpebholo, said the state has never been so divided in its history.
He slammed Governor Godwin Obaseki for increasing the country’s debt profile from about ₦43 billion in 2016 to over ₦500 billion.
“We are here to change it; we came to restore infrastructure, education and security in this country.
“We are bringing practical governance to this state,” he said.
