Residents and businesses in the northern region of Nigeria may experience reduced electricity supply after Kaduna Electric announced a reduction in electricity distribution due to challenges affecting electricity generation on the national grid.
In a notice issued on Sunday, the electricity distribution company explained that gas supply problems have limited the amount of electricity available for distribution, forcing the company to implement additional load shedding in its service areas.
The electricity distributor said the shortage of electricity supply is impacting customers across Kaduna Electric’s franchise areas, which include Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
To address this situation, the company assured customers that steps are being taken in the power sector to increase electricity generation and stabilize supply.
“We would like to inform you that we are currently experiencing a reduction in electricity supply across our franchise areas due to gas supply constraints affecting power generation on the national grid,” the statement read.
“This situation has resulted in reduced power allocation and increased load shedding across our network.”

The company noted that stakeholders in the sector are working to resolve gas supply issues so that power generation companies can increase their production.
“However, we are pleased to inform you that the Independent System Operator of Nigeria (NISQ) is actively working with relevant stakeholders in the power sector to ensure gas supplies to generating companies increase significantly, which in turn will increase electricity generation on the power grid,” the statement added.
Kaduna Electric also said it continues to maintain close contact with key players in the electricity sector to monitor developments that can improve electricity supply to its customers.
“At Kaduna Electric, we are in constant communication with relevant stakeholders and continue to monitor the latest developments regarding increased generation and supply to our grid.”
The company apologized to customers for the disruption and expressed appreciation for their patience while efforts continue to resolve the situation and restore a more stable electricity supply.
The announcement comes shortly after Eko Electricity Distribution Company issued a separate notice to customers in Lagos State about planned power outages scheduled for Saturday, March 14.
According to the notice, the power outage—which is expected to last from 9am to 6pm—will allow contractors working for the Nigerian Transmission Company to carry out maintenance and upgrade work designed to improve the delivery of electricity services.
