Gateway Scrabble Club has won the Inter Club challenge of the Nigeria 2025 Scrabble Federation.
Under the captaincy of the experienced master’s player, Cyril Umebiye, Gateway SC with the best group of very youthful and talented scrabble gems brought the surprise package of the Inter Club finals, Yenagoa SC to the 4-1 Cleaners with a cumulative point of more 1204.
Notch 20 victories of 25 games, current continental champions, Oluwatimilehin Doko, recorded very impressive statistics of 5 victories and a more 618 cumulative points, while Abdulmin Jimoh a member of the Nigeria team at the 13th Games of Africa and the African Scrabble Championship won 5 victories and 591 points as its summit.
The youngest member of Gateway SC David Ojih and Hakeem Ogundokun dropped a game each.
Ojih ended with cumulative points of more 177, 116 more than Ogundokun. Captain Cyril Umebiye lost 3 of 5 games and about 243 points.
Bright Ohaka, Dobbra ENAI, Priceus Igali, Vincent Munanyo and Ezekiel Eniekebi of Yenagoa SC achieved each one with Ezekiel Eniekebi with the largest deficit of cumulative points of less 350, 4 more than Vincent Munanyo in less 336 points.
Gateway took the first 2 games with identical scores of 4-1, lost the number 3, 3-2 and then secured the title in the number 4 match with a 5-0 victory, the same stage was repeated again in the final match.
Gateway SC captain, Cyril Umebiye, said his victory in the championship is due to excellent equipment management and an almost perfect wealth package in the owner and president of the Ijebu -ode club, Ogun based in the state of Ogun.
