Gaza War: UAE, WHO to evacuate 148 Palestinians to Abu Dhabi

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has announced an urgent initiative to evacuate 85 sick and seriously injured Palestinians, including cancer patients in need of intensive care, accompanied by 63 family members, from Ramon Airport in Israel to Abu Dhabi through the Karam Abu Salem crossing.

This initiative, according to the statement signed by the Head of the Economic, Political, Media and Public Diplomacy Section of the UAE Embassy in Abuja, Mr. Saif Thani Alktheeri on behalf of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is part of the UAE’s unwavering humanitarian commitment to our Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip and demonstrates the urgent need for humanitarian intervention, while also reaffirming the UAE’s firm commitment to supporting the people of Gaza in this catastrophic situation.

He said: “The UAE’s various lines of communication continue to facilitate humanitarian efforts to assist the people of Gaza and lend a helping hand in times of need.

UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy was quoted as saying: “At this critical moment, the urgency of our mission to evacuate wounded Palestinians to Abu Dhabi cannot be overstated.

“This unprecedented route reflects the gravity of the situation and our unwavering commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip and ensuring the delivery and distribution of relief supplies through all available means, including land, sea and air. This initiative is a testament to the UAE’s enduring and historic support for the Palestinian people, driven by our unwavering dedication to providing immediate relief and promoting peace in the face of immense adversity.”

He stressed that to date, the UAE has received 709 patients from Gaza, along with 787 of their family members, for medical treatment. This follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to provide care to 2,000 wounded and cancer patients from Gaza.

He added: “This significant increase in our efforts demonstrates our solidarity with the Palestinian people and our determination to alleviate their suffering and ensure urgent, sustainable and unimpeded distribution of aid, on a large scale and by all possible means. We remain resolute in our work with international partners to ensure that our aid reaches those who desperately need it.

“For his part, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said: “We are grateful to the United Arab Emirates for supporting the evacuation of sick and injured people from Gaza to receive the urgent care they need. We hope that this will pave the way for the establishment of evacuation corridors through all possible routes, including the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings to Egypt and Jordan, and from there to other countries. We also call for evacuations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to be reinstated. Thousands of sick people are suffering needlessly. Above all, and as always, WHO calls for a ceasefire.”

The statement specifically said that to date, the UAE has delivered over 40,000 tons of essential aid, including food, relief and medical items, via 8 aid ships, 337 flights, 50 airdrops and 1,271 trucks. The fourth UAE aid ship arrived in Al-Arish this week, marking the eighth aid shipment, carrying 5,340 tons of humanitarian supplies and the largest shipment since the start of relief operations.
