Ghanaian CHAN head coach Annor Walker has dismissed reports suggesting the Black Stars could approach Nigeria to use the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium for their upcoming home games.
This speculation arose after the disqualification of the Baba Yara Stadium by the CAF, which deemed it unfit to host international matches.
Responding to these reports, Walker clarified that there have been no discussions about Nigeria as a possible host.
“Honestly, if you hadn’t mentioned it now, I wouldn’t have even heard that they were considering playing in Nigeria,” Walker said.
He further explained that while alternatives outside Ghana have been considered, such as Ivory Coast, Benin and Togo, Nigeria was not specifically mentioned as a possible host.
Walker stressed that the priority remains to get one of Ghana’s stadiums ready in time for their crucial match against Sudan next month.
“They say we play outside the country like Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Togo, but they have not specifically mentioned Nigeria, that we will play our game in Nigeria.”
“The national sports council is working to get one of our stadiums ready. Whatever needs to be done, they need to do it so we can play our game against Sudan next month,” Walker concluded.
