The head of the army staff (Coas), LT.-GEN. Olufemi Oluyede, has accused the media of giving priority to national security in his reportage.
According to him, the media have the responsibility of providing timely and useful information to the public while guaranteeing that such information do not compromise national security.
Oloyede declared it during the opening training for media agents in Nigeria, organized on Tuesday by the Department for Civil-Militarian Affairs of the Army headquarters in Abuja.
Represented by the general manager, Heritage and Future Center Nigerian, Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adhesina, the Coas said that while safety situations evolve, also public institutions such as the media must adapt to face the challenges of our time.
“This training is timely, especially with the Nigerian army deployed in various operating theaters.
“Its goal is to facilitate a favorable employment relationship between the military and the media.
“I think it is essential for safety agencies and the media engage in forums like this, since both sides work for the same purpose; a safe Nigeria in which each individual is important.
“I am encouraged by the series of speakers in line for this event and I am confident that we will all be better equipped to advance national security.”
He observed that the Nigerian army was adopting a proactive approach in his collaboration with the media.
He said this was in order to build trust and cooperation in pursuing national security.
He observed that the Nigerian army had tried to find a strategic balance between protecting citizens respecting the law, national security and the media right to spread information.
He explained that the training highlighted the meaning of the collaboration between the military and the media in facing the safety challenges.
In his observations, the head of civil-military affairs (CCma), Mag.-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, he said that facing the challenges of national security of evolution has requested an approach to an entire company.
Chibuisi said that the construction of mutual understanding rooted in trust, precision and balanced report between the military and the media was crucial.
He revealed that training was part of the commitment of the Nigerian army in improving civil-military relations and promoting an informed, professional and safe information environment.
According to him, this strategic collaboration aims to expose media professionals to doctrines, operations and army communication strategies.
“Accurate and constructive reports can galvanize national support, improve responsibility and contribute positively to collective security.
“A well -informed media is a strategic partner in our fight against security threats.
“This initiative fills the gap of knowledge between security forces and media professionals, promoting responsible relationships that support national security interests.”
The CCMA invited the participants to actively commit themselves, ask questions and seek clarity on complex issues.
