GOC stresses need for social welfare, commissions 68 rooms for transit accommodation of soldiers in Effurun barracks

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army (NA) 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has stressed the importance of complementing operational successes with sound administration and welfare during the commissioning of a 68-room Soldier Transit Accommodation at the 3 Battalion, Effurun Barracks, Warri, Delta State on September 10, 2024.

Major General Abdussalam stressed the importance of quality leadership and unity of purpose in achieving substantive objectives, noting that the new accommodation addresses the critical housing needs of the troops. He stressed that this development is in line with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The GOC acknowledged the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and commended Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL) for its substantial contributions to the project. He noted that the collaboration between the Nigerian Army and TSSL exemplifies a strong bond that extends beyond operational synergy, fostering camaraderie and goodwill.

Reassuring the public, Major General Abdussalam said the 6th Division will continue to protect critical national infrastructure, ensuring greater oil production in the region. He also addressed the ongoing operations related to the Okuoma incident, stressing that efforts will continue until the stolen weapons are recovered. He urged the soldiers to maintain the new structure and commended the 63rd Brigade Commander and Commanding Officers for their achievements.

Brigadier General Unachukwu, Commander of the 63 Brigade, attributed the operational and administrative progress of the Brigade to the leadership and support of Major General Abdussalam. He explained that the new accommodation, transformed from the old Army Day Secondary School, addresses the accommodation challenges of the Brigade by providing temporary shelter for unhoused soldiers and a transit camp for troops.

Captain Warredi Enisouh, Executive Director of Operations and Technical at TSSL, expressed gratitude for the partnership with the Nigerian Army, reaffirming the company’s commitment to the project. He stressed that this initiative marks the beginning of a strengthened relationship between TSSL and NA, contributing to the development of the region and national security.

The newly commissioned facility includes 68 rooms, 18 bathrooms and three central kitchens, equipped to accommodate at least 140 soldiers. The interior space also supports training and other activities, improving the well-being of troops stationed in the barracks.
