Godwin Odibo joins Rwandan champions APR FC as third Nigerian signing

In a major transfer move, former Sporting Lagos winger Godwin Odibo has signed for Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC.

This transfer marks a pivotal moment in Odibo’s career as he becomes the third Nigerian player to join the club, following in the footsteps of Victor Mbaoma and Chidiebere Nwobodo.

The 26-year-old Odibo caught the attention of APR FC with his impressive performances in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Despite Sporting Lagos’ relegation, Odibo stood out for his speed and skill, making 26 appearances, scoring one goal and providing four assists last season.

His dynamic play on the field has been widely recognised, making him a valuable addition to the APR FC squad.

Odibo’s signing for APR FC comes at a time when the club is preparing for the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign. His signing is seen as a strategic upgrade to the team’s attacking options.

APR FC, known for their dominance in the Rwandan league with 22 titles and 13 Rwanda Cups, are aiming to harness Odibo’s skills to build on their success in continental competitions.

Reflecting on his transfer, Odibo expressed his excitement at joining APR FC and the opportunity to compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League. “Joining APR FC is a big step in my career. I look forward to contributing to the team’s success and taking on new challenges,” he said.

The APR FC manager also welcomed Odibo, highlighting his pace and creativity as crucial assets for the team. The addition of Odibo, along with other Nigerian talents such as Mbaoma, is expected to bolster APR FC’s attack, bringing more depth and versatility as they aim to reach greater heights in both domestic and international tournaments.

Odibo’s move to APR FC not only marks a new chapter in his professional career, but also the growing influence of Nigerian players in Rwandan football. While fans eagerly await his debut, Odibo will undergo medical tests and finalise his contract with the club in the coming days.
