Governor Abia to retire from politics at the end of his term of office

The Governor of the State of Abia, Alex Otti, has put aside any plan to fight for the senate seat at the end of his term of office.

He stated this during the reception held to respect him by the Anambra Development Association, Aba Branch.

Otti rejected unfounded and misleading speculation about the ambition of his senator.

He said: “When I finished eight years of me here, I will retire. I will not go to Abuja.”

He urged older politicians to provide space for younger leaders, quoting developing political landscapes and increasing youth participation.

“We are no longer young. People are changing, and young people rise. It is time for us to give them the opportunity,” he added.

The governor also announced plans to review the release of 154 state workers in 2011, most teachers, from civil service.

He said the head of state service would be directed to immediately review this problem for the possibility of compensation.
