Governor poll: Police begin clearing illegal guns in Edo

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, said on Saturday that officers had commenced the clearance of illegal arms and ammunition ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.

Iwo, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the state police command spokesman, Moses Yamu, said at a meeting with political party chieftains and respective governorship candidates in Benin City.

He said the aim was to ensure security during the elections.

CP appealed to them to convince their supporters to avoid any form of violence during the elections.

He assured them that the police and relevant security agencies would ensure that all stakeholders, including election materials, were protected for a peaceful election.

Iwo asked for information that would assist the police in ensuring a supportive environment for the elections.
