Graduates who are funded by PTDF to England, USA, Canada failed again, those who are at home do not have a job, the lament of the agency boss

Oil Technology Development Fund (PTDF), on Thursday, expressed concern over the loss of human capital investment in Nigeria, revealed that many scholars were sponsored by the Agency for foreign studies remaining in the UK, the United States, and Canada.

Ny. Bolanle Keminde-Agboola, Head of Foreign Scholarship Scheme (OSS) at PTDF, an agent responsible for developing capacity in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, revealed that 8,196 Nigerians had benefited from a combination of foreign funds and domestic scholarship schemes.

Speaking in the PTDF Student Sensitization Program at UYO, the state of Akwa Ibom, Kadinde-Agboola regretted that a large number of graduates who were trained abroad did not return to Nigeria because of lack of employment opportunities in the country’s oil and gas sector.

“The total beneficiaries of the recipient of the Association of Foreign and Domestic Scholarship Schemes are 8,196. We have trained more than 8,000 students and some of them have been stated there. All of our investments are maintained in the US, Britain, Canada, and more,” he said.

He further highlighted the frustration of graduates who returned, saying, “Also, there are complaints that when they return to Nigeria, they do not get a job, and they find it difficult to be absorbed in the oil and gas industry. Therefore, we need to create more cooperation and partnership with the oil and gas industry.”

The Kaninde-Agboola announced that PTDF had initiated collaboration with the oil and gas industry in Nigeria to overcome this problem, which aims to secure work for its graduates, especially those trained abroad, in the main position within these companies.

He explained the mandate of PTDF, which stated, “PTDF is designed to meet the requirements of the long -term human ability of the oil and gas industry through the Nigerian education and training (domestic and foreign) in relevant fields such as: Engineering, Geology, Environmental Studies, Management, IKT, and Health and Safety.”

PTDF was established by Law No. 25 of 1973, replacing the Administration of the Gulf Oil Company Training Fund, 1964, inherited its assets and responsibilities to provide training and education for Nigerians in the petroleum industry. Scholarship schemes support individuals from SSCE holders to graduates who pursue master’s degrees and also sponsor research at Nigerian University.

The Kaninde-Agboola emphasized the purpose of the sensitization program: “We are here today to make Uyo University students aware of PTDF activities … Under the development of human resources, we have a program that has been developed by students where students who return.

Sunday Adedayo Asefon, Senior Special Assistant on Students’ engagement to the President of the Ball Ahmed Tinubu, stressed the evolving demands of the oil and gas sector, stating, “The Oil and Gas Sector Was No Longer a space for only technical experts; Engineers, Policy Analysts, Digital Innovators, Environmental Scientists, Legal Minds, and Event Community Mobilisers.

Asefon praised the role of PTDF, saying, “The role of PTDF in supporting capacity building cannot be exceeded. Through initiatives such as scholarships, training programs, and partnerships with academic institutions, PTDF helps lay the foundation for the new generation of Nigerian professionals who will bring advantages, transparency, and continuously to this new generation.

Students from the tertiary institutions in the state of Akwa Ibom stated their award for the PTDF program aimed at building long -term human capacity in the oil and gas industry.
