Ijesa South Patriots on Saturday accused the Osun State police command of plotting to implicate member of the House of Representatives, Sanya Omirin, in cult-related crimes.
The group was reacting to the recent arrest and parade of some individuals for alleged involvement in cult-related activities at the command headquarters in Osogbo.
In a statement issued on Saturday by His Excellency Oladapo Tunde, the Ijesa South Patriots alleged collusion between the police and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to discredit Omirin.
It is claimed that the police statement about fraternal war in the state is identical to the script spread by the APC on social media.
The statement read: “We are shocked that the police would be so condescending as to act out a script written by the APC. This is a clear case of political persecution, and we demand an immediate investigation.”
The group also demanded clarification regarding police interest in the matter.
He added: “Is Honourable Sanya Omirin a member of one of the cult groups involved in the fraternal war? No! Why would an APC member in the state have a speech to be read by the police two days before the event?

“Since when did APC members become part of the police structure in this state? What is the police’s interest in involving Honourable Omirin, an honourable member of the House of Representatives?”
Ijesa South Patriots also highlighted past attacks on Omirin by hoodlums.
“Omirin cannot be the sponsor of these criminals and they will attack him. What does the Osun APC want from Omirin? This is clearly a case of political vendetta, and we will not tolerate it,” the statement said.
The group urged the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to stop the Osun State Police Command from acting out the APC script and targeting Omirin.
βWe demand that APC accept defeat in the 2022 and 2023 elections and move on because no amount of blackmail will stop Hon Sanya Omirinβs high political status.
“We demand a thorough investigation into the matter, and appropriate action should be taken against those found guilty,” the group concluded.
