Munachimso Brian Nwana, a 22-year-old content creator and food consultant, has set the world record for the most fast food restaurants visited in 24 hours.
Brian visited 150 different venues, breaking the previous record of 100, set last year by American YouTuber Airrack.
Before that, the record belonged to TikTok stars Nick DiGiovanni and the late Lynn “Lynja” Davis.
Both record attempts occurred in New York City, while Brian’s occurred in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
He said: “New York has a large number of restaurants and a decent public transportation system, so doing this in Abuja was much more daunting and challenging.”
No private transportation is permitted to attempt this record, and due to the city’s limited public transportation infrastructure, Brian completed the entire route on foot.
He walked more than 25 km (15 miles), starting from Chicken Republic in the residential neighborhood of Gwarinpa and arriving in the city center, at the fast food chain Kilimanjaro.
He chose 5:00 PM as his start and end time, taking a nine-hour break from midnight to 9:00 AM to sleep.
To successfully achieve the record, at least one food or beverage must be purchased and consumed in each restaurant and at least 75% of orders must consist of food.
Brian says he ate “probably enough to last a week” and made an effort to try something, even just a bite, from most of the places he visited. The rest of the food was consumed entirely by his team and members of the public.
He took up this challenge to promote Abuja restaurants and raise awareness of Nigerian cuisine.
Although he ate a variety of foods, including shawarma, pizza, fried chicken and hamburgers, his favorite dishes were Nigerian delicacies such as moin moin (bean pudding) and àmàlà (a swallow-like dough).
“This record proves that the Nigerian food space is worth paying attention to,” said Brian.
“I would like to encourage people from all over the world to come and explore the Nigerian culinary space.”
