Gunmen kidnap two journalists and family members in Kaduna

Kaduna State Police spokesman Mansir Hassan has confirmed the abduction of two journalists, AbdulGafar Alabelewe, Chairman of the NUJ State Council Correspondents Chapel, and three members of his family by gunmen on Saturday night.

According to Hassan, those who were kidnapped were Blueprint Newspaper correspondent Abdulraheem Aodo and his wife.

In a statement on Sunday, a police spokesman said the two journalists and their family members were abducted from their residence in the Millennium City area of ​​Kaduna at about 10:30 p.m. when kidnappers stormed the community.

“The victims are the Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel, Kaduna State Council of NUJ, AbdulGafar Alabelewe and 3 members of his family who were kidnapped last night at Danhono 2, Millennium City, Kaduna.

“Also, Blueprint Newspaper Correspondent Abdulraheem Aodo and his wife were also kidnapped at the same location.

AbdulGafar Alabelewe is also a Correspondent of Nation Newspaper.

“We have deployed our men to the bush where the kidnappers are believed to be holding the victims,” ​​the police spokesman said, adding that our men were doing their best to ensure that the victims were released unharmed.

A family member of one of the victims, Taofeeq Olayemi, who also confirmed the incident to journalists, said the bandits stormed the community at about 10.30pm on Saturday night and started shooting sporadically before carrying out the kidnapping.

Olayemi said the bandits kidnapped Alabelewe, his wife and two children, while Aodo and his wife were kidnapped, leaving behind their sick daughter.

“They broke doors, windows and removed anti-theft devices after climbing over the fence.

“They came at around 10.30pm on Saturday night and started shooting sporadically. They first broke down the door of Aodo’s house and took him and his wife, leaving their sick daughter behind.

“Then they entered Abdulgafar’s house through the fence and jumped into his house.

“They went straight into his bedroom and picked up him, his wife and their two children, then left immediately.

“The guards arrived much later and started firing shots in the air after the criminals took the journalists away.”
