Gunmen kill Police Inspector in attack on Borno station

In the early hours of Sunday, July 28, 2024, unknown gunmen attacked the Jakana Police Station in Konduga Local Government Area of ​​Borno State, resulting in the death of an unnamed Police Inspector.

“We recorded a foiled attack by unknown gunmen on the police headquarters in Jakana town. The gunmen tried to infiltrate the police perimeter, but the efforts of the Mobile Police Force stationed at the police station in Jakana managed to repel the gunmen who tried to storm them.

However, we lost a male police inspector,” said State Police Public Relations Officer Nahum Kenneth.

Kenneth stated that it was too early to determine whether the attackers were affiliated with Boko Haram, saying, “At this point, we can only categorize them as armed men because their anonymity has not been revealed.”

In a previous incident in February 2024, suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked a police station in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area, killing four policemen and stealing ammunition.

According to security sources, the terrorists also set fire to parts of the police station during the attack.
