Gwoza bombing, sabotage of resettlement plans —Governor Zulum

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has described the recent suicide bombing in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state as an act of sabotage to his administration’s resettlement agenda.

Zulum, who made the allegations while speaking to reporters on Saturday after arriving from a 28-day holiday
at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, said the incident occurred at a time when his administration had finalized plans to repatriate displaced residents back to their communities.

“What happened in Gwoza is very unfortunate, at this important time, when we are celebrating the end of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State, we are witnessing a series of bomb attacks,” Zulum said.

“I believe this is an act of sabotage, because we are now waiting to see how we are going to resettle people to their communities. I think some people do not like the resettlement agenda of Borno State.

“I want to appeal to the people of Gwoza to remain calm and obey the law. The state government will partner with the federal government to ensure that the internally displaced persons are resettled in their communities,” he added, while reiterating his commitment to supporting farmers in addressing food insecurity in the state.

“We will make sure that we do more than what we have done for the people of Bono State. I know there are challenges in Nigeria, especially the issue of food scarcity. But I think it is temporary.”
