The state government of the highlands will conduct elections in 17 regional regions in the state on September 1, 2026.
Chairperson of the State Independent Election Commission (Plasec), Mr. Daniel Cishak, revealed this during a press conference on Thursday in JOS.
He said the move was in accordance with sections 15, 19, 21, and 33 laws of plasiec, 2024, part 197 (1) (b) the 1999 constitution (as amended), and the Election Law, 2022.
Cishak said: “Plase do wants to tell the leadership of all political parties and the general public that the election will be held in 17 LGA plateaus, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
“The election will be held between 8 am and 3:00 pm

“Based on part 19 (2) the law of Plasec, 2024, the office selection will be held no later than 30 days before the end of the term of office of the last office holder.
“The commission is empowered by section 33 (1) the law of plasiec to issue election notifications no later than 360 days before the election date.”
He urged the political parties and other stakeholders to comply with the schedule issued by the commission before the election.
Plase Bos also called for cooperation from the parties and people in the highlands to enable the commission to regulate credible elections in the state.
