Historic! Nigerian women’s rugby team secures place at 2025 Rugby League World Series

Nigeria’s women’s rugby team, the Green Falcons, have booked a place in the Rugby League World Cup, defeating Kenya to secure Africa’s only ticket.
Nigeria were given the ticket on technical grounds after a closely contested series against Kenya at NYS’s Nairobi venue.

In Thursday’s first match, Nigeria won 22-14, while Kenya won 8-0 in Sunday’s second match, resulting in a tie on points.

The final result was determined by technicalities: Nigeria won after kicking three goals to Kenya’s two, despite Kenya also kicking two field goals.

As Africa’s sole representative at the inaugural 2025 World Series, Nigeria will now compete for a place at the 2026 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

They will face the winner of the Americas, the runner-up of the Asia-Pacific region and the runner-up of a European play-off between Ireland and Greece.

The winner of the 2025 World Series will qualify for the 2026 IRL Women’s World Cup, joining England, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Wales and France.
