‘Hold them responsible, Sen Akpoti-Uduaghan calls Akpabio, Ododo, Bello for Kogi’s safety issues

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uuduaghan, who represented the Kogi Central Senatorial District, has caused concerns about the potential threats to his safety and his supporters when he prepared a visit scheduled to his constituencies for Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan directly appointed the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, the State Governor Kogi Ahmed Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello, warned that they must be held accountable if there was violence.

“My dear people at Kogi Central, I am waiting for our peaceful Sallah celebration today. However, should we meet or infiltrate violence, Nigerians must hold Ododo Gov, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio who is fully responsible,” he said.

His warning follows the previous declaration that he would continue with his return schedule, rejecting speculation that he had canceled his visit. He reiterated his legal responsibility to be involved with his constituents and encourage them to massage them for the Eid al -Fitr celebration.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statement came in the midst of increasing security problems in the state of Kogi. On Monday, the state government imposed a ban on demonstrations and public meetings, citing intelligence reports on potential security threats. The government also forbade fishing and other activities in certain communities, claiming that new incidents have caused the loss of lives in Kasemiya, Katubo, and Umozu Ette in West Kogi.

Kogi State Commissioner for information, Kingsley Fanwo, stated that the prohibition was a proactive action to prevent unrest and maintain stability.

In line with the direction of the government, the Kogi State Police Command also warned Akpoti-Uuduaghan to cancel the planned Sallah General Meeting. Police Commissioner Miller Dantajaaye stressed that the meeting would violate the limitations of the newly upheld state on political events.

Apart from government restrictions, videos circulating on social media showed a large crowd of supporters of Akpoti-Uduaghan, especially women, gathered to anticipate their arrival. In the direct flow distributed by Senator Kogi Bashir Haroon, his supporters were seen singing and playing drums when they were waiting for the return of the parliamentary members.
