The State Police Command of Ondo revealed that the kidnapping of a teacher at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Omonyi Samuel, was helped by the commercial motorcyclist who usually transmits it to work.
The spokesman for the command, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, revealed it through a declaration issued on Thursday 14 August 2025.
The teacher, who was kidnapped in his home long-akungba in the area of the local government of the south-west of Akoko in the wave state on August 4th, was released on Sunday 10 August.
Ayanlade said that seven suspicions were arrested in relation to kidnapping.
He said that the 45 -year -old motorcyclist Benson Alaba used his familiarity to spy on the victim’s movements.
The police spokesman said: โOn August 4, 2025, (Alaba) visited the victim’s residence without a previous agreement, with the claim to request a phone.
โThis was subsequently confirmed to be a calculated stratagem to study the victim’s activities and create an opening for the union.
โShortly after his departure, other members of the gang moved and kidnapped the teacher.
โFurther investigations have revealed that Ogunbemi Wasiu (42 years old) of Okeruwa, Ikare, provided the Itel phone used to contact the victim’s family to ask for a redemption of N5 million.
“Although he said that the phone was lost on August 2, 2025, he did not report the loss to the police, a deliberate omission that helped the criminal company.

The police spokesman also denied reports according to which the suspicions were arrested while sharing redemption money, describing the statements as unfounded.
He added: โIn reality, their apprehension was the result of carefully coordinated follow-up operations based on credible intelligence and not during any alleged redemption sharing activities.
