The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (Huriwa) has invited the Nigerians to ignore the falsity and become vigilant of the dangers of the harmful use of social media to replace the investigation based on the facts and the right process.
The national coordinator of Huriwa, partner Emmanuel ONWubiko during a press briefing urged the Nigerian audience to make the record clear, to separate the facts from fiction and to prevent the improper use of social media and other platforms to damage the reputation of the people who served the country with honor and dedication.
Huriwa was reacting to the accusations of rape against the former minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, a senior supporter of Nigeria, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (San) by a lady Hadiza Musa Baffa.
He urged the members of the media, civil society and the Nigerian public in general to treat these latter accusations with the utmost caution.
He said they are not new; They have been studied, tested and found deficient. What we are witnessing is not a search for justice, but rather an assassination campaign of character against an illustrious son of Nigeria.
According to him, the Association of Writers for Human Rights of Nigeria reiterates his trust in the integrity of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (San).
He said to avoid doubt, it is important to revisit the background of the individual who makes these accusations. At a certain point in her life, Mrs. Hadiza Musa Baffa was placed under the protection of a close family friend, acting at the request of her mother.
He explained that unfortunately, instead of using this opportunity to build a promising future, the relationships indicate that he has gathered in the conduct that created series challenges for those who have brought it, finally bringing to the end of his protection and his return from his mother.
“The most worrying thing is the way he repeatedly dragged the name of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (San) in these issues. Depending on the situation, he presented himself as his daughter, opening bank accounts in that identity.
“Other times, he said he was his uncle. When the narrative no longer needed it, he adopted the affirmation that he was his husband. More recently, he went further, claiming that he was his abusator, including the claims of sexual attacks and ritual practices.
“The contradictions in these changing identities are evident and underline the deliberated nature of the attempt to damage the integrity of a respected figure.
“The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria does not base its position on the items. We rely on verified and documented investigations the results. When these accusations have been formally reported, the Nigerian police forces, through its Department of Criminal Investigation of the Force and the Department of Intelligence of the Forces, have conducted a complete investigation.
“After an exhaustive investigation, the police concluded that the accusations were unfounded, unfounded and motivated by malice rather than by facts.
“In addition to the conclusion of the police, it is worth noting that his father, Musa Bashir Baffa, wrote a formal letter of apologies to Mr. Turaki. In the same way, during the sacred month of Ramadan, precisely on March 12, 2025, the same Mrs. Baffa sent an excuse to Mr. Turaki via WhatsApp.
“In that message, he recognized his false steps, begged forgiveness and undertook to withdraw his petition. Faithful to his word, he followed a formal letter of April 25, 2025, addressed to the general police inspector, in which he retired his petition in writing.
“It is therefore profoundly worrying that, despite the discoveries of the police, the apologies of her father and her written admission of illegal, Mrs. Baffa has again brought to the social media platforms to repeat these accusations in the so -called” public opinion court “.
“Having not managed to confirm his statements in front of the police and in formal legal trials, now he seems to resort to propaganda, hoping to reach public sympathy what he could not demonstrate through evidence.
“This trend is not only unjust for Mr. Turaki, but is also harmful for the wider struggle for justice in Nigeria. False accusations, when you leave uncontrolled, weaken the items of authentic victims of abuse and exploitation, which can be non -believing due to cases of high -profile falsehoods.
“It is for this reason that Huriwa considers the question not simply as a personal attack on a man, but as a disturbing attempt to play social media and undermining the credibility of the legitimate defense of human rights,” he said.
