“I am disappointed with Elon, this ingratitude”: Trump, Musk Trade Words Over Tax Cut

The President of the United States Donald Trump, Thursday 5 June 2025, lashed to his ally Elon Musk, saying that he was “disappointed” from the public opposition of the billionaire to the vast cutting of taxes and the expense that is at the center of the president’s agenda.

“Listen, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will do it more,” Trump said in the oval office, in his first direct response to Musk’s criticisms.

“He said the most beautiful things about me, and he didn’t say it hurt personally, but I’m sure it will be the next. But I am very disappointed by Elon. I helped Elon a lot,” the president.

While Trump was talking, Tesla Musk’s CEO triggered a series of critical responses on X, the social media site he owns.

He wrote: “Without me, Trump would have lost his elections.

“Such ingratitude.”

The shares of the Tesla electric vehicle manufacturer dropped by 9% after the explosions, at their lowest level since the end of February.

Clear tensions have reached a boiling point between the most powerful man in the world and the richest man in the world, after weeks of speculation of being directed to a clash of ego.

Musk, whose other companies include Rocket Company and Government Contractor Spacex and its Starlink satellite unit, has spent almost $ 300 million in the 2024 elections in support of Trump and other Republican candidates.

Starting from Tuesday, the technological manager has triggered a series of bladder attacks against what Trump calls his “big, beautiful workmanship”.

Musk defined the bill as a “disgusting abomination” which would have deepened the federal deficit, amplifying a crack within the Republican Party which could threaten the prospects of the bill in the Senate.

“False, this bill has never been shown to me even once and was overcome in the death of the night so quickly that almost nobody at the congress could even read it!” Musk wrote on X Thursday.
