MPs who represent the Panchin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituent from the highlands in the DPR, Yusuf Gagdi, have reiterated their opposition to the creation of state police, but insisted he supported state policing.
Gagdi, last week, when interacting with his constituents in Kanam after the wave of attacks by Bandit, did not agree with the commotion for the creation of the state police that had been fought for by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
When kicking the idea, Gagdi said:
“My position, even on the floor of the house, is that the governor will abuse the state police, especially against political opponents, not to maintain peace and order.
“I say this without fear of contradictions or errors in political presentation. Nigeria is not mature for the proliferation of security agencies. Conversely, I support the strengthening of existing security institutions. Flanting police, military, state service departments and others adequately, and ensuring accountability,” Gagdi has been stressed.
When it appeared on national television a few days later, the legislator defended its position, adding that its opposition to the creation of state police came from the fact that the governor would use operations against political opponents felt during the election.
“Mention a state governor who election and you have two percent of local legislative council members won by opposition.

“Tell me a state, including my APC state, that you have one or two chairpersons of the Regional Government Council won by members of the opposition?
“Therefore, that means that you will judge INEC at the national level more transparent and better than the State Independent Election Commission.”
He also stated that if there was a state police, the governor would arm the operators who would later turn against opponents.
“Now, if the governor cannot handle the independent state commission fairly, how do you trust them with the power to control AK-47 at the state level? I have the right to my opinion.
“If they cannot handle the country’s independent election commission well and even allow opposition to win in a relatively fair election, but they take everything for themselves, strangle the opposition, pursue and capture, and announce the results they want to announce. How do you then give them the state police?”
He also expressed concern about giving the governor’s control over armed security, emphasizing that they would abuse these forces.
“In your opinion, how will the governor use the state police? If you give him civilian power to election and he uses it militarily, what if you give him military power?”
However, during the radio program in Jos on Saturday, Hon. Gagdi brought a new twist where he stated that he somewhat supported the community of the community where local youth were recruited into the main judge group and were equipped to protect their community because they knew Medan better.
Gagdi said that the vigilante group like that would be more effective than the State Police because they would only be responsible to their community than the governor.
