ICJ rejected the Sudan genocide case against the UAE

The International Court (ICJ) has rejected the Sudan case which accused the United Arab Emirates (UAE) involvement in the genocide in Darfur due to lack of jurisdiction.

The request for indications of temporary steps was submitted by Sudan in “Application of the Prevention and Penalty of Genocide Crimes in Sudan.”

Sudan accused the UAE of supporting Paramiliter Fast Supporting Forces (RSF).

The Sudan government accused that the support of the UAE was the same as the involvement in the genocide action against the non-Arab masalite population in Darfur Barat.

Public hearing at the request was held on April 10.

In the decision, the United Nations Top Judicial Agency decided on Monday with a vote of 14 to two which could not be followed by a case proposed by Sudan and refused to impose a temporary action as requested by Khartoum.

The court also removed the case from a general list with nine to seven votes.

“After arriving at the conclusion that he clearly did not have jurisdiction, the court was prevented to take any position for the benefits of the claims made by Sudan,” the decision said.

The court noted that meanwhile could not hear this case, all countries remained bound by their obligations under the genocide convention.

The conflict between RSF and Sudan army has claimed thousands of lives and fled more than 12.7 million people since April 2023.
