Ighalo criticises fans for attacking Osimhen

Ighalo slams fans for attacking Osimhen – Latest Nigeria Sports News

Former Super Eagles player Odion Jude Ighalo has criticised the treatment meted out to Victor Osimhen by Nigerian football fans following his exclusion from the Napoli squad for the season.

Osimhen failed to secure a transfer before the window closed and will now be sidelined with no game time until January.

Despite his clear intention to leave Napoli towards the end of last season and the arrival of new coach Antonio Conte, who preferred Romelu Lukaku, no agreement materialised.

Osimhen was heavily linked with Chelsea and Al Ahli on the final day of the transfer window, but neither move came to fruition.

Antonio Conte has said that Osimhen will not be returning to the squad: “No player will be returning. Those who are not in the project will stay out of the project. We have made our decisions and we are working in a direction all together.”

Former Manchester United player Ighalo took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his concerns:

Ighalo

I hate Ighalo.

“No human being is perfect and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing comments about this young man from people in his own country makes me really sad.

Without even knowing what happened, I spoke to him and I could feel the pain in his voice, the way he has been treated, this young man plays with his heart and pain for his country, Hmmm okay, he will definitely come back stronger, we learn every day in life.”

Although Saudi Arabia’s transfer window remains open, it is not certain whether Osimhen will make a move there, having previously expressed his preference to remain in Europe.
