Oyi’s Oyi government area in the state of Anambra, is known for its cave, its ranks of famous intellectuals and politicians, and perhaps, above all, for its real majesty, Igwe John Ositadimma Mengenoora, Ezedioramma I, its first and only traditional sovereign to date.

Igwe Mennyiora was recognized and issued a certificate of recognition such as the traditional Ogbunike sovereign on December 26, 1976. He was much loved for the standards he set for the traditional domain of Ogbunike and his legacy in the education, development and organization of Ogbunike in the structures that moved to a greater league.

His 44 -year -old kingdom was peaceful, he obtained respect for Ogbunike and threw the governance of the community to the traditional authorities who included Ugwueze Society (for the elderly aged or over 80 years of age), the traditional council of Ogbunike (ndi icie) and ndi nze na ozo ogbunike. He also started and coordinated the association of traditional humu-hygubed sovereigns. All of these were captured in the 1978 IGwe Ogtiike Constitution, including the succession procedures.

A role is attributed to Igwe Mennyiora in the emergence of one of its topics, dr. Chuba Okadigbo, Oyi of Oyi, as a special councilor of the deceased former president of Nigeria, Alhaji Shehu Shagari. Dr. Okadigbo was to become president of the Senate of Nigeria.

A very educated man studied at the Yaba College of Technology in the scholarship, was a great entrepreneur and had sufficient resources to contribute with the main community development projects.

Five years after his disappearance, a dispute on what happens to Igwe Mennyira has divided Ogbunike into two main groups. Honorable Judge Raphael Okey Onunkwo would sit on the question on Wednesday 16 April 2025 at the State High Court, Otuocha, 26.4 km from Ogbunike and 34.6 km from the Awka state capital.

Among the issues that Onunkwo justice, a former criminal law and professor of the company law at the University of Nnamdi Azikiwe, Awka, would decide that they are:

. A motion to stop the election of a new Igwe Ogbunike on April 21, 2025

. A declaration according to which the Ogbunike community is not yet ready for the selection of an election of IGWE until peace returns to ndi icie/ogbuefi ogbunike and there is a united ndi icie/ogbuefi ogbuniike with a new manager of ndi icie ogbunike elected by a united ndi icie/ogbunike.

. A declaration according to which the managers of NDI Ickie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike led by the 2nd accused are not competent to sit in a joint meeting of the central manager of Ogbunike Town Union and Ndi Icie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike in order to receive, evaluate, screening and selection of Igbunike.

. A declaration of the honorable court that until there is a United Ndi Icie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike without a faction, a joint meeting by the central manager of Ogbunike Town Union and Ndi Icie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike cannot sit to receive, shield and/or election of IGWE for the Ogbunike community.

. A declaration of the honorable Court that until a declaration of vacant place pursuant to the third program in Igwe Ogbunike Constitution 1978 is correctly made and signed by adequate and authorized representatives of each village is performed and pronounced, the process for the selection of Igwe Elect has not started and will not begin.

An order of the honorable court that cancels all the trials now put in place for the selection of IGwe Elect for the Ogbunike community with the joint decisions of the 1st defendant and its managers and the 2nd defendant and his faction of ndi icie/ogbuefi ogbunike unless up to the general resolutions have been made in December, the resolution of the dispasss of the uncomfortable icie/ Ogbunike and the unification of Ndi Icie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike in one body and the amendment of the constitution of Igwe Ogbunike of 1978 and the establishment of the UNION PROGRESS of Ogbunike.

The crisis had been accentuated by the alleged refusal of Ogbuefi Nwaffor Onyezia, who was elected president of Ndi Icie/Ogbuefi Ogbunike in 2016 for a three -year mandate that expired in 2019, to free the assignment or allow the elections to be held. There are currently two factions by NDI ICHIE/OGBUEFI OGBUNIKE.

The only document for the resolution of the Igwe Ogbunike dispute is the 1978 document.
According to the complaints, the election of Igwe Ogbunike cannot contain without the solved problems.

ICHIE/OGBUEFI Tobechukwu Obiakor on behalf of the interviewees recorded the average of being the general president of the UNION progress of Ogbunike and that the complaints had participated in the last of the Igwe Mennyiora in 2022, he knew that the elections to the office were due after six months.

He asked the Court to reject the movement on the move while it was done to stop the detention of the processes to elect the new Igwe. Ogbuefi Onyezia said that the complaints had no interest in the elections as they had not participated in the processes to contest the position. He concluded that the government of the State of Anambra had approved the elections and its program.

The former lawyer of the Federation, Tochukwu ONWUGUFOR, SAN, an Ogbunike Indigne in a letter dated 10 December 2024 to the governor Chukwuma Soludo asked for his intervention to prevent the breakdown of the law and the order in Ogbunike. He observed that any election held without addressing the underlining issues would violate the constitution of Igwe Ogbunike of 1978 and could have thrown Ogbunike in turmoil. He begged the governor to convince Ogbuefi onyezia to reconcile with the other group before an election.

Maduka Nwakwesi, Phd, entitled Ogbunike Elder, on January 24, 2025, wrote to Ogbuefi Obiakor, president of Ogbunike Progress Union, asking for amendment for the 1978 Constitution to reflect the current ranking of Ogbunike, reorganization of the Council of Ogbuefi, did not suggest that these should be considered before an election.

Judge onunkwo, elevated to the bench in 2017, would resolve the most immediate question if the election of Igwe Ogbunike would have remained on Monday 21 April 2025. All eyes are on the judge.

Finally…

Nigeria is on a slide. Another indication are the pilgrimages of Muhammado Buhari to Kaduna to consult him, ask for his advice and the possible support while we head around 2027. The pilgrims could not have known that Buhari was in Kaduna to put a distance between him and the insecurity in his beloved state of Katsina.

Babagana Governor Zulum of the State of Borno is shouting that Boko Haram is increasing the state. “The government invites everyone, in particular subnational governments, to join hands to ensure rapid eradication of the remaining pockets of criminal elements wherever they are”, was the reply of the Minister of Information Mohammed Idris. Zulum is talking to the front line, the Minister of Information is in Abuja and the president, commander in chief, is in France.

At 16, Alabi Yusuf Quadri was arrested in Kirikiri prisons since January 2025. The question has just become public. Quadri returned to fame during the 2023 presidential campaign by stopping the entourage of the candidate of the Labor party Peter Obi to express his support for Obi. According to reports, “Boys areas” accused him of fighting and making problems, led him to the police where they did the same accusations. The accusation against him, in a court of the magistrate, has changed in armed robbery. It is blocked by hardened criminals. What happened to the detention centers for minors? How many minors are blocked as paintings? Obi is working with Inabehe Exiong, a lawyer, on the possession of paintings.
