Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho made his debut for Sevilla on Sunday but it ended in tears as Liverpool defeated Sevilla 4-1, Sports 247 reports.
The Nigerian striker, although he only lasted 45 minutes on the pitch, it was a first half one to quickly forget for the former Manchester City man, as Liverpool were three goals ahead.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring on the half-hour mark and two quickfire goals from Luis Diaz saw Liverpool head into the break comfortably to the delight of the Anfield fans.
The “big man” who played through the middle in Sevilla’s three-man attack was replaced by compatriot Chidera Ejiduke at the start of the second as he had little to no impact on the match.
Sevilla changed their formation to play more from the wings with Ejiduke as the main tormentor from the right side of the attack.
The entrance of the forgotten Super Eagles winger gave some spark to Sevilla’s attack as he dribbled past Trent Alexander-Arnold and laid on the assist for Gerard Fernandez, who found the back of the net to reduce the deficit.
The game dragged on for a long time with both teams and Sevilla threatening to add more goals, but Liverpool’s young Englishman Trey Nyoni had other ideas as the 17-year-old came off the bench to restore Liverpool’s three-goal lead with a beautiful half-volley.
Both teams used the match as a warm-up game ahead of the start of the 2024/2025 season, when LaLiga and the EPL kick off next weekend.
Sevilla brought in Iheanacho to bolster those attacks as the Nigerian moved from England to La Liga and ended his seven-year stay at Leicester City.
