In the midst of a developing conflict, the presidency rejects the rumors of the coalition as ‘political hallucinations’

In the midst of political growth about the possibility of forming a coalition to challenge the current administration, the president of Nigeria has openly underestimated such speculation, describing them as unfounded and cut off from political reality.

In a statement shared on Wednesday through his official X account, Daniel Bwala, a special advisor to the President of Bola Ahmed Tinubu on policy communication, rejecting the surge from the opposition front. He refused the report as “political hallucinations” without real support among the main political actors of Nigeria.

“Saying the political coalition soaring when in fact no one is interested in him is political hallucinations,” Bwala stressed, adding that there was a few or no interests shown by the stakeholders who influenced such an alliance.

He pointed to the new public statement by the main figures and bodies in the ranks of the opposition, including the Democratic Party of the People’s (PDP) and the Labor Party, all of which have denied involvement in the coalition discussion.

“The PDP Governor Forum said they were not interested, NWC PDP said the same. This new Peter Obi said he was not in a coalition discussion, the Labor Party said they were not interested,” Bwala repeated.

Conversely, BWALA claims the decision of all Progressive Congress (APC) continues to gain strength, recording the entry of members from the opposition parties, including former vice presidential candidates of the PDP from the 2023 election.

However, this statement came with a background in the deepening of the riots, both in the opposition and the President of Tinubu itself. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who came in second in the 2023 presidential competition with nearly seven million votes, remained vocal about the need for strong and united opposition that was able to release APC in the next election cycle.

Adding complexity is the sound that stands out from inside the new APC away from the Tinubu administration. Among them were former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and former Federation Government Secretary, Babachir Lawal. More dramatically, former Governor of the State Kaduna Nasir El-Rufai left his membership in APC, accused the wrong administration of government, and in line with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai has since urged the Nigerians with a joint punishment to unite for a common purpose: to shift the APC government in 2027.
