In the midst of fears of the Ebola virus, Marburg, NCDC released the test results from the alleged case

The Center for Nigerian Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two cases of alleged hemorrhagic fever of the new virus are reported in Abuja have tested negatively for the Ebola virus and the Marburg virus.

The agency revealed this in the public health advisor issued on Friday and signed by the Director General, Dr. Jide Idris. According to the statement, further laboratory investigations are underway to determine the existence of other virus hemorrhagic fever, including lassa fever and dengue fever.

The center revealed that one of the suspected cases involved a traveler who had returned from Kigali and immediately appeared at the hospital in Abuja after experiencing symptoms. “His decision to report earlier, combined with the vigilance of doctors present and the hospital team, ensured that our public health system was immediately activated and that the risk for the public was minimized,” the statement said.

NCDC praised both patients and medical teams at the Nisa Premier Hospital, Abuja, for their quick actions, describing them as exemplary practices that must be imitated by all Nigerians. “When you feel unhealthy, especially after traveling, looking for treatment early. Doing that protects you, your family, and your community,” urged the advice.

This center further notes that they have started the collection and analysis of relevant data to improve their readiness and response, especially given the latest reports on Ebola cases in other countries.
