Indian police arrests alleged Nigerian fraudsters after the victim committed suicide

The alleged Nigerian fraud -based fraudsters had been arrested by the police after one of the victims was reported to commit suicide.

According to the online news platform, Indian Express, a 31 -year -old Nigerian citizen who was identified as Chijioke John Okoye, was arrested for allegedly squeezing and squeezing money from a woman who later died of suicide on March 1.

News outlet, in a publication on Monday, said Okoye who had lived in New Delhi, the Indian capital since 2020, was arrested at Palam Colony on Friday after the detailed investigation and was charged with court in Cuttack on Sunday.

The report stated that Okoye’s arrest was possible when Cuttack police launched an investigation after the victim’s family submitted a complaint after his death.

“A suicide record reveals that he has been repeatedly squeezed and threatened by an unknown individual on WhatsApp,” the outlet said.

“Cyber ​​Cyber ​​Cells Urban Cuttack tracked the suspect through international telephone numbers related to this case.

“Okoye is suspected of making more than 3,000 fake Facebook profiles, disguised as a professional like a doctor.

“By using this identity, the police said he would send friendship requests to people in the same field, build relationships, and get their contact details.

“DCP Khilari Dnyandeo explained; ‘He used the fake profile to send friendship requests to other profiles on a similar domain.

‘After developing friendship with them, he cunned with them to get their cellphone numbers and WhatsApp on the pretext of having a relationship with them.

“As soon as he made contact, the police said he would convince the victims to share personal and intimate photos by sending them fake images from the people he knew.

“According to the police, he will then use this material to squeeze and squeeze the money from the victims.

“Okoye uses the same tactic in cuttack women, threatening to release her personal content unless she continues to pay.

“Surprised by fear and unable to escape from her demands, the 37 -year -old woman ended her life.

“After his arrest, the police found laptops, five cellphones, and eight SIM cards from various countries. Although Okoye was a Nigerian, the police said he was found to have a passport issued by Ivory Coast, which is currently being verified.

“Cuttack police added that they were investigating whether he acted alone or was part of a larger cyberspace network.

“He will be considered a detention for further investigation to ascertain whether he operates alone or works as part of a larger cyberspace syndicate.”
