Inec Debunks Date Report for Voter Registration Recovery

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec), has denied a broad report that claims that they have improved May 27, 2025, for the start of sustainable voter registration training.

Reports brought by several online platforms on Saturdays, stated that the election agency will also provide related services including transfer and replacement of lost permanent voter cards.

But in a statement on Sundays issued by the Head of the Press Secretary for the Chairperson of Inec, Rotimi Ohekanmi, the Commission said the report was wrong because the body had not yet announced the start of the exercise.

According to a statement shared on his official X account, Inec urged the public to ignore the “anonymous message” circulating online, which mistakenly claimed that the CVR would be continued on May 27.

The commission rests again that they have not announced the date for the start of these activities, ensuring that any official information about CVR will be announced on time through the verified social media platform and other official channels.

The statement titled ‘Inec has not set a date for the start of CVR,’ reads:

“The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) wants to tell the general public that they have not announced any date for the return of Sustainable Voter Registration (CVR), transfer and replacement of lost permanent voter cards (PVC).

“Therefore the commission urges the public to ignore false and anonymous statements that make rounds, claiming that CVR and other related services will be continued on May 27, 2025.

“In line with the tradition, the commission will openly announce the date of the start of the CVR at the right time, the complete details will also be shared through our official social media platform.”
