Inec spreads six new Recs appointed

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) on Friday mobilized the newly appointed Population Election Commissioner (Recs) to fill vacancies in the six states.

Recs were deployed shortly after they took the office oath at the Inec headquarters in Abuja.

The new Rec is-DR. Sa’ad Idris, Director General of the Election Institute, Dr. Johnson Sinikiem, Ny. Feyijimi Ibiyemi, Mukhtar Gajiram, Chukwuemeka Ibeziako, and Umar Garba.

Idris was deployed to Gombe, Sinikiem to Cross River, Ibiyemi to Ogun, Gajiram to Taraba, Ibeziako to Abia, and Garba to Sokoto.

Sinikiem and Gajiram were re -appointed for the second term, while Idris and Ibiyemi were commission career staff.

Before the gathering, Ibeziako was a private legal practitioner, while Garba also had many years of experience in the private sector.

Chairperson Inec, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, in a comment at a short ceremony, said that with the distribution of Recs, all vacancies have been filled in 36 states and the Federal Capital Region (FCT).

Jacobu urged Rec to justify the confidence that was opposed in it.

He advised them to focus on their responsibilities; Guided by the selection legal framework, the Code of Ethics for Rec and the Commission Operation Guidelines.

Boss Inec also advised them to act in line with the oath of their office and wisely manage the commission resources entrusted to them.

He said: “Your appointment is full time and not a part -time responsibility. You must give leadership and conduct effective supervision.

“You can only succeed in this responsibility when you have knowledge about the activities of the commission, especially the innovations that are introduced in election management.”

He emphasized the need for them to operate within the limits of delegated strength and responsibilities.

“You must not act independently or think that you can act violating the law, regulations, and guidelines or opposing commissions without consequences.

“We will ask for your accountability for your actions and slowness.

“We will not hesitate to deal with the actions of defiance, distrust, or violations in the part of each REC.”

Idris, who spoke on behalf of the new Recs, praised the President of Bola Tinubu, the Chair of Inec, and members of the commission for the opportunity given to them to serve.

Idris promised that they would serve diligently and they would not underestimate the noble call to serve Nigeria.

“When we took a new role, we did it with a clear understanding of the weight of responsibility before us.

“The role of REC is the center of integrity of our selection process and the sustenance of democracy.

“We are fully aware that the credibility of the election does not only rest on the system and structure but also on the character and commitment to those entrusted to manage it,” he said.
