The Governor of the State of Ogun, Prince Dapo Inhabitun, inaugurated the first rapid diagnostic test production plant on a large scale of Nigeria (IVD) and the second of his kind in sub-Saharan Africa.

The company, Codix Bio Limited, an in vitro diagnostic factory (IVD), is located on the Sagamu highway, with a production area that focuses on the production test kits for HIV, malaria and hepatitis B and C.

The governor, while spoken to the Friday event, expressed his fingers for the giant steps, adding that with the ability of the structure to produce about 147 million test kit every year, the factory marks the dawn of a new era in biomedical innovation in the country.

“Today, we open a transformative chapter in the Nigerian healthcare scene with the official commissioning of Codix Bio Limited. It is a bold declaration that Nigeria is ready to strengthen its public health infrastructure and significantly reduce our dependence on imported diagnostic tools.

“We appreciate the fact that this initiative is actually aligned with the renewed agenda of the hope of our president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which is committed to reforms to unlock the chain of health value through local manufacturing companies to reduce imports,” he said.

Governor inhaboun added that more than 90% of the diagnostic kits used in Africa is imported, mainly by Europe, Asia and North America, according to a WHO report in 2023, noting that the test kits offer a tool for changing game in early detection and also act as a desirable tool for effective disease management.

He said that Codix Bio Limited’s investment speaks of volumes of the economic vision of his administration, adding that the investment of Codix Bio would help the country to save vital changes, to create jobs, to create industrial skills, to create employment and improve health delivery.

The Minister of Health and Social Wellness, Prof. Ali Pate Muhammad, praised the governor Dapo Inhabitun for the massive reversal of trend in the area of ​​infrastructures throughout the state, stating that the state government has found the magic source to connect talents with industrialization, which would have fueled growth in the medical production sector.

“Your excellence, the governor of the state of Ogun, I must appreciate what I have seen in your state in terms of industrialization, convergence and ecosystem that you are trying to create.

“I came from the airport and, to see what’s going on and what I have heard of it, I think you played an incredibly practicable leadership in this direction, and I praise you and your team for what you did.

“I hope other states, including my state, can learn some things from what you have done in the industrialization of the state of Ogun,” he said.

In addition, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in his speech, praised the governor Dapo Inhabitun for the good work done by his administration at Gateway International Airport, as well as to make the activity of activity for investors in the State.

Dr. Alausa has accused Codix Bio limited to consider the possibility of using their factory as a training ground for the next generation of biomedical engineers, laboratory scientists, pharmacists and quality guarantee professionals, encouraging the factory to deepen the partnerships with the universities, the polytechnics and the research institutions not only to strengthen their work for the work to help develop the ECO innovation.

In his previous observations, the CEO of Codix Bio Limited, Sammy Ogunjimi, said that the factory is designed to be one of the largest and older in Africa, adding that the company’s goal is to serve not only Nigeria but also to the Ecowas region and the entire continent of Africa.
