The Governor of the State of Ogun, Prince Dapo Inhabitun, has promised a reward of N2.5 million for each gold medal won by the state athletes at the National Sports Festival who begin on Sunday in the State.
The governor also promised the sum of n1.5 million and n1 million, respectively, for each silver and bronze medal he won the competition.
Governor inhaboun promised when he visited the athletics field at Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, the area of the local government of the state.
By contacting the state contingents in the field, Governor inhabitu also promised the sum of N50.000 to each state athlete of Ogun participant within 24 hours, urging them to go to make the state proud.
“I understand that when you win a medal, there is an instant prize. Once you get a medal, get a huge reward.
“Anyone who wins a gold medal in this festival will receive the sum of N2.5 million from me.
“For each silver medal, I will give that n1.5 million medal.
“Anyone who receives a bronze medal will receive n1 million.
“You are here because you are the best of Ogun State. Anyone who is not here is not good enough to represent Ogun State. You are not here to compete alone, but to win. We are hosting to win and you have to bring medals home.”
Ogun, noticed inhabitun, is known to be the best, just as the state has produced world -class sports and women who have made the nation proud, appreciating the athletes for showing exemplary character in serving their motherland.
He said the state has provided the infrastructure and structures necessary for a continuity of competition, stressing that it is the first time that all athletes are camped for the National Sports Festival competition.
“The National Sports Festival was organized to bring together all the Nigerians in unity. When you leave here, you will have tied and exchanged the hands of friendship through the Niger and Benue.
“Come from all parts of this state, camp and you have trained for months readily to the competition.
“We have made available the infrastructure and structures that have become the reference point in sports in Nigeria. Our recently renewed international sports arena in Abekuta will host international competitions and we are working to develop the sports economy in the state of Ogun,” said the governor.
While asking athletes to cooperate with officials, the governor promised that the minor challenges detected would be faced, since a competition of this size could not be 100 % free from sobs.
