The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zanfara State on Saturday called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state due to ongoing security challenges.
The party made the call in a statement issued in Gusau by its State Secretary for Public Relations, Yusuf Idris.
Idris said: “We appeal to President Bola Tinubu to impose a state of emergency in the state because of insecurity.
“The people of Zamfara have lost confidence in the ability of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to handle the security situation in the state.
“APC Zamfara chapter commends the ongoing offensive against bandits and terrorists in the state by the military in the North West state under the coordination and supervision of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.”
The party said the ongoing military operations in the North-West as directed by Tinubu would surely yield unforeseen results.
He added: “The bandit leaders and their gangs have been brought low by the latest developments in the Federal Government’s efforts to combat banditry.
“This is very impressive and needs to be maintained at all costs to keep this area free from all forms of crime.
“As a party, we are watching with dismay how the Zamfara Government is trying to sabotage the ongoing attacks through its media campaigns.
“This is to divert the efforts of the federal government under the coordination of the Minister of State for Defense.
“We observed that Lawal as the state governor never supported the military operations in the state in terms of logistics.”
