The Nigerian National Committee of the Internazional Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) condemned the arrest, detention and harassment of Azuka Ogujiubba, an editor of Media Room Hub and former journalist with the newspapers of this day, by the agents of the police force of Nigeria who act for Abuja’s directives.

IPI Nigeria said that Ogujiubba had carried out his professional duty to report on a judicial case that involved a dispute on Earth.
Instead of respecting its constitutionally guaranteed right to press freedom, the police have resorted to intimidation, illegal possession and repeated calls to Abuja, despite the fact that resides and works in Lagos.
On two separate occasions, Mrs. Ogujiubba had been arrested and held in relation to this question.
“These heavy tactics are equivalent to obsessive harassment aimed at silent a journalist for having carried out his legitimate duties. “IPI Nigeria reminds the authorities that journalists must be able to cover issues of legitimate public interest without fear of arrest, possession or reprisals.
“Any attempt at muzzle, the press affects the heart of Nigerian democracy and weakens public trust in its institutions.
“Therefore, we warn that if this model of harassment continues, IPI Nigeria will have no choice but to formally include the police inspector in his” infamy book “-a public record of individuals and institutions that violate or allow violations of the freedom of press in Nigeria”, said the declaration.
IPI Nigeria reiterated his call to all the law enforcement officers to act within the limits of the law and to honor the constitutional and international commitments that safeguard the freedom of the press.
“We are in full solidarity with Azuka Ogujiubba and with all journalists in Nigeria who face intimidation and persecution in the line of duty. The Nigerian government must support its responsibility to protect the freedom of the press and ensure that the rights of journalists are respected without compromised,” he said.
