The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to Igbo politicians and leaders to desist from using the name of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu for personal or political gains.
In a press statement on Monday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful alleged that some Igbo leaders were exploiting Kanu’s detention to advance their political ambitions, while secretly collaborating with the Federal Government to detain him.
IPOB stressed that Kanuβs detention was the result of his struggle for Biafran freedom, not Nigerian politics. The group commended the sincere efforts of some Igbo politicians seeking Kanuβs release and vowed to expose those who would exploit IPOBβs success for personal gain.
The statement further warned that Kanu’s continued detention would lead to economic and security deterioration in Nigeria, and that IPOB would frustrate the political ambitions of those who exploit Kanu’s plight.

It read, “Some of these Abuja sycophants are using the glory of IPOB’s troubles to revive their dwindling political influence in the South-East. We are watching them closely. We advise them to stop riding on the glory of IPOB’s success or face public reprimand.
βHowever, we commend the patriotic and sincere Igbo politicians and leaders who are earnestly working for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. We urge them never to give up. We note all the work for or against IPOB among Igbo leaders and politicians. In time, everyone will pay their dues, good or bad.
“We want the Federal Government and its political backers from the South East to understand that as long as Kanu is illegally detained, Nigeria’s economy and security will continue to fall apart. Those who are exploiting the plight and detention of Kanu and IPOB members to advance their political interests will be disappointed and will watch as IPOB will frustrate their political ambitions from the East.”
The commemoration highlights IPOB’s growing frustration with Igbo politicians who are seen as using Kanu’s name for personal gain, while also underscoring the group’s commitment to securing Kanu’s release and achieving Biafra’s independence.
